Roads Report & Top Priorities

Saturday, Jan 25, 2025, 2:55pm

Hi SLE - I drove all the roads again today.

Sand is holding up so we remain in good shape. The distribution last week was extensive (four truck loads). It was planned for the temp drop so a maximum amount would freeze and remain in place on our roads for as long as possible.

Due to lack of snow, potholes remain. The road base (rock) that was brought in last month has definitely helped to keep the roads together before we moved into colder temps.

We look forward to bringing more rock in come spring or even if it warms up for a sustained period of time. But we’ll make a determination at a later date with regard to weather/budget to maximize results.

Some areas that are at the top of my list to repair as soon as possible are the rough sections on St. Joe and Spirit Drive, which is less traveled but in dire need of repairs just the same. The two sections on Tahoe where the road has settled from being dug up during infrastructure improvements will also be prioritized.

A more extensive project is planned for the back of CDA to open up Treeport to not just make that a smoother ride but alleviate the wear and tear on the two main exits/entrances at St. Joe and CDA, especially as we anticipate those two will be brought up to code by IDT this spring/summer.

I just want you all to know that I am aware of these and other spots out there in need of attention as soon as they can be addressed with rock and/or grading when conditions are right.

Also, please do not depend on speed limit signs that are up year-around to direct you on what speed is safe to drive during winter. Drivers must adjust their speed and how carefully they navigate roads and rougher sections based on what is safe for conditions.

Thanks for driving slowly and with caution to keep everyone safe out there. Have a great weekend. Jon
