New Road Chair

Hi Everyone - I'm Jon Dore. I have taken the position of Road Chair so Joe and Road Crew can focus on what they do best: maintaining our roads and vehicles. I will provide regular updates on the work being done including short and long-term goals.

As you may know, we had back-to-back infrastructure projects that tore up our roads even more than expected, which led to delays. Our Road Crew collaborated with those companies and graded around them where possible to avoid further delays.

Also, there was a lot of rain this fall, so our guys had to wait for the roads to dry out to do more winter prep work, and the roads have become too frozen now for additional grading.

So, you probably saw that yesterday and today, road base was brought in (15 loads total), which were distributed in the highest-traffic areas of CDA, St. Joe, and hardest-hit Liberty.

The goals of this project are to:

- Have road base freeze in place now with the temp dropping and snow coming soon.

- Make for an easier ride in here for you and our plow trucks (at least through the roughest spots), and yes, we know more could be done, I'll be back to you about that later.

- Get a jump on spring thaw with more base down now.

WE NEED YOUR HELP WITH THIS. PLEASE SLOW DOWN.

Icy rain is coming, we'll be sanding if needed, but slowing down would help to keep everyone safe and preserve our new base. People are flying by like it's summer.

If you want my background, I've got 30 years experience in construction including roads and base compaction for residential, commercial and government projects. I've been volunteering with the Road Crew since 2022. I worked with the Intermax Project Manager and sub to expedite the wrap-up of that project.

I've consulted with other excavation experts here in SLE. I'll continue to incorporate their feedback and yours.

If you have any questions or need to report something, please email me at roads@spiritlakeeast.org. Thanks - Jon
